2019 welcomes our favorite 20th biennial wine trade show: Vinexpo Bordeaux. The event is reserved exclusively for professionals and journalists and will be hosted at the Bordeaux Exhibition Centre located as the name suggests in Bordeaux, France. As a seasoned oenophile, the opportunity to spend any amount of time in the time-honored Southwest of France – the haven of the finest internationally accredited wines – is a dream come true.
Now, in case you missed Vinexpo Paris back in January, Vinexpo Bordeaux 2019 brought forward its classic spring experience forward one month from the familiar mid-June dates to mid-May. Don’t worry though, Vinexpo is resolute in upholding its traditional well-renowned spring showcase.
This four-day event is expertly decorated with meetings, networking opportunities, and an adequate exposition of quality wine industry updates offered to all its visitors. Event goers will have no worries about filling up their week with productive – and educational! – endeavors. With a hefty 56 talks and tastings alongside the nearly 150 countries represented, the event continues to maintain its notoriety as a world-class show.
For a brief recap on our favorite moments from Vinexpo Bordeaux 2017, a trip down memory lane brings us to our favorite Vinexpo challenge: The Blind Tasting. In addition, we remember our symposium focuses on both Brexit’s effect on EU wine trade as well as the impact of climate change on wine and spirit production. We hope to continue experiencing Vinexpo’s strategic collaboration between importers, buyers and sommeliers alike.
A highlight of the 2019 exhibit will certainly be “WOW!”, World of Organic Wines, a showcase of biodynamic and organic wines. Ideally reliving Vinexpo 2017’s artful display and well aerated conditions, clients and business owners alike are welcomed back to try a new selection of striking, innovative wines. Bordeaux 2019 has also promised to continue its 2017 symposium discussion of the effects of climate change in hopes to export more information to our favorite vendors and producers. (Can we get a s’il vous plait for sustainability?)
Not a vendor? Still interested in running off to Bordeaux, France for a luxurious wine festival? The Bordeaux River Festival takes place in June 2020, on the off years of Vinexpo. With an affordable €21 Indispensable Wine Tasting pass, visitors are allowed 12 tastings at each of the 11 pavilions during the five days of the festival. Festival goers are invited to sample appellations from Bordeaux and Aquitaine, while immersing themselves in the beauty of Bordeaux’s city life.
Highlights from Bordeaux’s 2018 Fête le Vin include the classic Dragon pyrotechnics over the riverfront and the tall ships’ departure parade at the end of day four. For a crash course in planning your own trip, enjoy a drink on the Garonne ship bridge to have your best view of the firework display or plan an elegant dinner in one of the nearby restaurants deep in this heart of Southern France. During the festival, be sure not to miss out on the chance to spend some time learning at the Bordeaux Wine School or take a walk through the heart of the city to check out the street art.
It’s never too early to start planning your getaway!
